Las Orquideas Chinique Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy more chickens, as well as decor to sell for parties and celebrations.

Las Orquideas Chinique Group's story

Sandra, a 33-year-old married mother of three children (aged between 4-16), is determined for her children to have a complete education. They are all enrolled in primary or secondary schools. Sandra attended school for 9 years. Her husband is a teacher and a real role model for the children. Sandra works hard at her two businesses. She raises chickens and also sells decor for parties and celebrations. With her 4th Kiva loan, she plans to buy more chickens, as well as more decor.

The Friendship Bridge “Microcredit Plus” program of loans, education and health care, gives Sandra and six other Maya K’iche women the tools to improve their lives and businesses. At the monthly meetings of their Trust Bank called “Las Orquideas de Chinique,” they obtain business management tools that help them run their businesses raising chickens/pigs, selling party supplies and flowers. Another member has a dental clinic while another has a shop where she sells bicycles and spare parts for them. Other topics covered at the meetings concern health, nutrition, hygiene and precautions to take during the pandemic. Every other month, the women have access to basic health care services like blood pressure/blood sugar exams, family planning consults and more.

Kiva investors, partnering with Friendship Bridge, are much appreciated by Sandra and her friends. Thank you to each of you for your generosity and your kindness!!
