A loan helped to buy more silk thread, dyes and other materials for weaving her cloth.

Suean's story

Suean is a married woman who lives with her husband, brother and children in a Khmer community in Surin Province, Northeast Thailand. Her family makes a living primarily by farming rice and weaving silk cloth to sell.

Suean learned from her mother and grandmother how to weave and began to weave silk cloth when she was still young. She also learned how to create different textures on silk garments and dye silk. She realized that weaving silk is a useful art and capable of generating income for her family.

As Suean wanted to grow her business, she applied for a Kiva loan to buy more silk thread, dyes and other materials for weaving her cloth. The loan will allow her to not only buy enough materials for her business but will also assist local entrepreneurs in growing their businesses. She intends to open her own silk cloth shop in the local market.
