A loan helped to buy silk thread, dye colors and materials for weaving silk cloth.

Sriamphai's story

Sriamphai is a married woman who lives in a Khmer community in Surin Province, Northeast Thailand, with her parents, husband and children. At the moment, her family makes a living by farming rice and weaving silk cloth to sell.

Sriamphai appreciates weaving silk clothes because she has seen her mother weave silk for a long time and has been very familiar with the material. Her mother taught and inspired her to weave silk and create different textures of silk clothes.

Sriamphai desires to weave silk in order to meet market demand and supplement her family's income. She applied for a Kiva loan to purchase more silk thread, dye colors and materials for weaving silk cloth.

The loan will allow Sriamphai to purchase necessary materials for her occupation while also assisting her as a local female entrepreneur. Furthermore, Sriamphai intends to open her own silk cloth shop to generate more income to spend in her family.
