A loan helped to purchase medicine.

Nuevo Horizonte Group's story

Expedita, 54 years old, was left by her spouse 18 years ago. She had to get ahead to earn a living and finish raising their 3 children, ages 19 to 32 years old. Expedita is pleased because, with great sacrifice, she was able to offer a complete education to all her children. They were able to graduate as teachers.

In the area, Expedita is a well-known midwife for tending to births. In addition to this important activity, she also gets additional income from the businesses of selling medicine (natural and manufactured) and raising and selling animals (chickens and pigs).

Expedita asks for her first loan to purchase medicine. She says, "I am sure that, with more capital, I will be able to expand the business."

Nine women of Mam ethnicity, who know each other, have formed the Friendship Bridge communal bank Nuevo Horizonte. They have successful businesses in the department (state) of San Marcos. The women want to invest their first Kiva loan to increase the capital of businesses such as raising animals (chickens, sheep, pigs) and the sale of medicine.

In addition to the loan, these women look forward to the monthly meetings where they participate in educational training. The topics are useful and indispensable for their lives and are based in four primary areas: finances, health, family, and women. The combination of loans, education, and medical services is called Microcrédito Plus.

Thank you for the courageous contribution, Kiva lenders.
