Shabriya's story

I was born and raised in San Francisco CA. While most kids were playing I was ALWAYS in the kitchen. I would sneak in to be nosy but I quickly became enveloped in the magic I witnessed as I watched and learned from the matriarchs of my family. The kitchen was where we cooked, laughed, bonded, and learned life lessons. I was hooked! Food and Flavor quickly became my passion. At 24 years old, I finally decided to follow my dreams and go to culinary school. It was short-lived when I had a stroke weeks later. My stroke changed my life completely, I struggled to go from being independent and caring for my daughter to not being able to breathe, eat, talk or walk on my own. I fell into a deep depression but I was determined to make it home, to my 2y.o daughter. We were told I wouldn’t walk or talk again but god had other plans. I thought my situation and disabilities kept me from my dreams yet it brought me closer to my passion than I had ever been. Cooking became healing, it was my therapy. During my toughest days cooking has brought me peace and strength. It's my direct connection to my ancestors and It brings me joy to see my food bring joy to others. After years of cooking for friends and family, I started my food business in 2019. No one expected a global pandemic just months after. All that time, work, and money I spent on my business seemed like a waste after several shutdowns. I felt like my dream ended before it could start but I kept going. Now that everything reopened, I have more opportunities but need a loan to assist in hiring employees, purchasing inventory/equipment including a small catering trailer.
