Las Mariposas San Pablo Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy a variety of shoes in different sizes and designs.

Las Mariposas San Pablo Group's story

Josefina, a 38-year-old married mother of 5 children (aged 2-20) worked hard to get her high school diploma. She then worked for 5 years in her local town government. She understands the tremendous importance of a good education, and 4 of her children attend elementary and high school. Her oldest son is married. Josefina's husband is a farmer and also sells rocks. Josefina has a stand where she sells all kinds of shoes, including athletic shoes in various sizes and designs for both men and women. With her second Kiva loan, Josefina can buy more of them.

Seven Maya Tz'utujil women, including Josefina, live on the shores of the magnificent Lake Atitlan in the department/state of Solola. They have convenience stores, weaving businesses, and sell shoes. They have joined together to participate in the “Microcredit Plus” program of Friendship Bridge (loans, education, health care). Their Trust Bank is called “Las Mariposas San Pablo” or “The Butterflies of San Pablo.” The women appreciate their monthly educational training sessions that cover relevant topics drawn from four areas: business, family, women, and health. Every two months, they have access to basic health care services, consults, and exams. This is especially important since the health care system in Guatemala is stretched thin and in some cases, non-existent. This free health care program is called “Health for Life.”

Kiva investors and Friendship Bridge are highly appreciated by Josefina and her friends. Thank you!
