Leipakoa's story

Leipakoa Serah lives in an urban area which is located just 10 minutes walk to Port Vila, in the city of Vanuatu. Her community is very small, but having a lot of business houses and schools makes her community rely on the food and service industry.

Leipakoa Serah is 58 years old and a mother of five grown up children. She lives with her husband and few of her children in a small shanty house on community land. She is a local farmer, growing root crops and vegetables which she sells at her community market house twice a week.

Leipakoa Serah has asked for a loan to pay for a small, deep freezer to stock with ice cream and ice blocks, which she plans to sell from her home to increase her income. The deep freezer will help increase her profits, which she will use to renovate her old house.

Leipakoa Serah has been a farmer most of her life, she grew up with parents who always lived doing farm work. She has been in her business for over 20 years. This is her fourth loan with SPBD - Vanuatu. She has faithfully repaid her previous loans on time. Through her loans, Leipakoa Serah feels inspired to expand her business and improve the living condition for her family.
