Lassie's Best Female Farmers Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to pay for improved seeds, organic supplies, and tractor rental fees, which enhance both sustainability and profitability.

Lassie's Best Female Farmers Group's story

Lassie J (the first on the left), is the featured borrower of Lassie's Best Female Farmers. She would like to sincerely thank all of the Kiva lenders for funding their first loan. It enabled the group's members to break free from the local lenders who were charging them nearly 100% interest. As a result all group members have fully recovered their businesses, have repaid their first loan, and are successfully farming again.

The group is now seeking a second loan to expand further. The global COVID-19 pandemic is causing food shortages in some areas of Sierra Leone, as imported rice becomes more scarce. A second Kiva loan will not only further empower these women, it will enable them to take advantage of the current market for rice and enhance food access in Sierra Leone at a time when this is badly needed.

The profits will be used to ensure all members' children go to school, and will also be used by the group to create a support fund for young female farmers.
