A loan helped to buy fingerlings (young fish).

Na Tau 56 Group's story

The lady wearing the red coat in the photo is Hien, the leader of Na Tau 56 group. She is 28 years old, married and has 2 children. Her big family consists of 7 members including parents, her spouse, brother-in-law and 2 children. They live in a narrow traditional stilt house of a Thai ethnic group in Dien Bien province where the locals primarily work as farmers.

In order to earn income for her family and children’s education, Hien works very hard in 3000 square meters of a rice farm. But it isn’t enough to cover living costs for her big family. After careful consideration, Hien decided to expand the fish farming model to earn extra income by buying more fingerlings (young fish) to raise and sell later. Luckily, the main hardship of Hien is lack of capital but the Anh Chi Em program has lent her a loan to solve this problem. Moreover, the Anh Chi Em program also supports her in agriculture technical trainings.

Hien is grateful for this loan from Kiva lenders and the Anh Chi Em program. The profit will be used to cover living costs for her family and pay tuition fees for her children. The remaining profit will be invested in expanding the fish farming model.
