Caroline's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy farm inputs such as organic fertilizers to help her on her farm.

Caroline's story

Caroline, a 42-year-old single mom of 5, lives in Eldoret, Kenya, a region where the main challenge experienced by farmers is limited access to sources of finance. Farmers need capital to finance various farm operations.

For the past few years, Caroline has been actively involved and making great profits in crop and dairy farming. Caroline has lovely children and works very hard to support them. Through farming, she has made her life meaningful and has given her family a solid foundation.

After learning about Juhudi Kilimo, Caroline applied for this loan to buy farm inputs such as organic fertilizers to help her on her farm, so she can improve her produce and earn more income to support her children.

Unlike other sources of microfinance in Kenya that impose very complicated procedures for funds acquisition, thereby discouraging smallholder farmers, Juhudi Kilimo is working closely with Kiva to make loan acquisition for smallholder farmers easy and convenient. Through this intervention, movement of funds in the rural communities has increased, helping to alleviate rural poverty.
