A loan helped to purchase one wooden loom.

Chitactux Group's story

The clothing of Maya women and men is one of the important values written on a life and a history. The traditional outfits are made according to the area. Angela maintains this culture. She is a 22-year-old weaver and tailor. She is single and lives with her mother and siblings.

They all work in the textile business. Angela employs 3 men to work the looms. The women, for their part, make lovely "blouses" which have lovely beaded decorations. Angela asks for her fourth Kiva loan to purchase one wooden loom, a tool which will help her to increase production.

These are 8 women who live in a cold zone in the department/state of Quetzaltenango. They speak the K'iche Maya language and Spanish. These women have textile businesses and raise laying hens.

Like Angela, these women have only achieved a primary school education. In the monthly training, they learn to manage their businesses effectively and see the importance of offering their children a formal education. A facilitator uses games and images with information based in four themes: business, health, family, and women. Every two months, the women have access to medical care services. Friendship Bridge calls the effective combination of loans, education and health "Microcrédito Plus".

By financing a Kiva loan, impact whole families of women like Angela. Thank you!
