Sophia's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy more fresh varieties of food such as maize flour, raw green bananas, beans, sauce, pans, and plates.

Sophia's story

Sophia is 29 years old and lives in the town of Kalerwe in the Kawempe region of Uganda. She has four children, with three of them currently in school.

For the past seven years, Sophia has been working hard to manage her restaurant, which sells cooked food and soft drinks.

To help expand her business, Sophia has requested a loan of 1,000,000 UGX from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more fresh varieties of food such as maize flour, raw green bananas, beans, sauce, pans, and plates for the restaurant. It will help Sophia to generate greater profits and improve on her family standards of living by providing them with enough food and also to buy some basic needs for her family.

Sophia hopes that in the future she will be able to provide a catering service in her community and build a house of her own.

Sophia is a member of BRAC's microfinance program (MF). The program primarily serves small-group members like Sophia who do not have collateral for commercial loans but have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.
