Lemaris's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped a Latina woman to expand her business and make an impact through fashion awareness.

Lemaris's story

I have spent many years studying and shaping myself as a professional in the field of fashion. I am from the western coast of the island of Puerto Rico. I had a sewing and fashion workshop in my town, Aguada, while I studied Fine Arts at the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagûez. Access to fashion education was not readily accessible in my area. I had female mentors with great experience as seamstresses, but not as fashion designers. This is why I started to travel to the opposite side of the island, San Juan, to study design on weekends. After several years, I moved to NYC to study fashion at FIT and work in the industry. Later on, I was admitted to the leading Master’s program in Contemporary Fashion at the International Fashion Academy in Paris. I launched my new brand in France under a new name, mission, and commitment: LEMLOREN. We promote environmental and social awareness through fashion and emphasize how this change in awareness in regard to sustainability can impact us. After several years living in France, I have stepped into the role of Textile Technology & Sustainability at IFA in Paris. I returned to Puerto Rico during the pandemic and brought back with me the commitment to create a space for the first school with an advanced program in Design, Fashion, and Sustainability in the western area of Puerto Rico; along with a concept store and the brand LEMLOREN. I aim to make specialized education in fashion, design, and sustainability accessible in my region for those who have a passion for this field in which I had to put so much effort, dedication, and sacrifice to make a place for myself. My space will also provide them with experience in production and local design through the shop.
