Lydia's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to purchase takeaway boxes and 3 bags of rice to stock up her home and increase her income.

Lydia's story

Lydia is a 44-year-old married mother of five. Her children are of ages 26, 25, 20, 18 and 8, all of whom unfortunately she could not send to school due to not having enough finances. Lydia lives with her children and unemployed husband in a shanty house on leased land which is located just 10 minutes drive to Port Vila's international airport. Her community is small, and the main industry is agriculture. Vanuatu people love their local food, so for one to provide that to earn income from is quite satisfying.

Lydia has requested a loan to pay for boxes of takeaway for her food stall and also 3 bags of rice which she will stock up her home to resell to her neighboring customers. She wants to sell rice at an affordable price per kilo to attract more customers and increase her profits. With her earned revenue, she will save up so she can purchase a piece of land for her family.

Lydia has been at her food stall for 15 years, her business has supported her family's needs and wants. SPBD - Vanuatu has aided her for over 2 years now, and this is her third loan. Her prior loan repayments were done fully. From her loans, Lydia is motivated to expand her business and to improve the living conditions for her family.
