Alaric's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped an African American urban farm increase the amount of food it can grow for a food desert.

Alaric's story

I am a father and a farmer. I have not always been a farmer though, but when I learned about food deserts and the consequences of people not having access to fresh produce, I wanted to find a solution. With a background in technology, I began farming using more innovative and sustainable models to grow food. The Covid pandemic made it hard for people to find healthy produce, so by growing food closer to where people consumed it I am able to make a difference in the supply chain by creating local access. As a minority farmer, there are many challenges and struggles to make farming work in an urban area. The average farmer is over 60 years old so we are on the verge of extinction. But by developing a successful, innovative, and economic farm, I will be able to employ and train the next generation of farmers so that they can help create more solutions for food security in the future.
