Mujeres Del Paraiso Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped buy ingredients for recipes, as well as furniture such as chairs and tables.

Mujeres Del Paraiso Group's story

The delicious regional dishes and snacks are popular in the rural areas of the department / state of Quiché. Manuela, 37 years old and mother of 3 children (7, 11, 16) has had a small restaurant for 10 years and a catalog of products for personal use. She shares that most of her customers are looking for "take out" but some prefer to stay at the restaurant to savor one of her tasty recipes. The demand is high and that is why Manuela needs more ingredients and furniture. She asks for her first Kiva loan to buy this, along with chairs, tables, and spices.
Manuela, along with 6 other women, is a member of the Puente de Amistad Community Bank “Mujeres del Paraiso”. Monthly educational training on effective business practices, women's issues, family issues, and health are vital to her success. They are designed by a facilitator who uses games, pictures, diagrams, and role plays to share information. Women also feel very fortunate to have access to a visiting nurse every 2 months because the health system in Guatemala is very poor. They can undergo blood pressure and blood sugar tests, and Pap smears. They can also have access to family planning methods. Friendship Bridge calls this helpful combination of loans, education, and health care "Microcredit Plus."
Manuela and her friends are ready to take a step into the future !!
