Herbert's story

I am a father of 2 adult daughters and 1 grandson. I have had to overcome a lot of obstacles and improving myself but it feels good to be where I am today. I want to provide more help to people like me through coaching and mentoring by expanding my business. My background is in Business Management and Restaurants. ALL my life I had the dream of becoming a small business owner and the dream stopped being a dream in June 2019 when I registered Chicago Guys MI LLC. It took years of handwork, planning, and making all the preparations to open our doors. We began as a retailer of gifts, plush toys, and our own brand of travel accessories. Due to Covid-19, we had to stop the development of new products and pivot the business. This loan would help us so much to continue developing new products and establish a professional online presence, build our brand, and support a comprehensive marketing plan which will include the use of social media platforms. My family is my drive. I'm also passionate about my customers and helping my team and my community in every way I can. I am very passionate about music and my church. I'm involved with my local church Mt. Joy MB Church, and through them, I do coat drives for low-income families every year, Potlucks for families in the neighborhood and donate for the purpose of college tuition scholarships. I also mentor young adults in how to fill out job applications and resume construction, business attire awareness, and how to begin a business. I am planning to help my community in a more structured way where we can team up with local, regional and national organizations to support elder people, women, kids, youth and encourage diversity.
