A loan helped to purchase more sacks of sugar, salt and maize flour for sale.

Florence's story

Florence is 27 years old and lives in the town of Mattuga in the Kawempe region of Uganda. She has two children, who are both currently in school. For the past two years, Florence has been working hard to manage her retail shop, where she sells essential items such as sugar, salt, cooking oil, and water.

To help expand her business, Florence has requested a loan of 1,500,000 Ugandan shillings [UGX] from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase more sacks of sugar, salt and maize flour for sale. This will help Florence to generate greater profits and manage to provide enough food for her family.

Florence hopes that in the future, she will be able to grow her business into a wholesale shop, acquire land and build a house.

Florence is a member of BRAC's microfinance program (MF). The program primarily serves small group members like Florence who do not have collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.
