Parichat's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!
A loan helped to buy raw materials and ensure her hammock business continues smoothly despite global economic uncertainty.
Parichat lives in a village in the mountains of Phrae Province, Thailand. She and her family face the same troubles of many rural villagers- obstacles to employment, dependence on uncertain crop prices and a lack of formal education. All three of Parichat’s young children are attending school, which wasn’t possible prior to her having income from hammock weaving. Prior to weaving hammocks, Paraya worked as a laborer in slash and burn farming. Agriculture in the part of Thailand where Paraya lives is far from easy. The land is marginally productive and even for small scale farmers who only want to plant enough rice for family consumption, must use fertilizer and other inputs to eke out a crop, something that is dangerous and detrimental to the environment. Hammock weaving has not just been an excellent alternative, but a significant improvement to her quality of life and increase in income. The profits she earns from weaving hammocks goes towards her children’s education and household expenses. This loan will help Parichat stabilize her hammock weaving income by ensuring she has supplies and yarn to weave consistently through the coming year.
