Pennapa's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy raw materials and ensure her hammock business continues smoothly despite global economic uncertainty.

Pennapa's story

Pennepa is a newcomer to the village and the Hmong tribe. She was born in a Thai family in northeastern Thailand. She met her husband (a Hmong man) while they both lived and worked in Bangkok. After they got married and began to think about their future family, they felt that the pace of life would be better in his home village. Thanks to the opportunity presented by hammock weaving, Pennapa felt confident she could learn a new skill and earn a good income in the countryside.

They moved to the village, and she now weaves at her home, along with five other weavers in her extended family! Her sisters-in-law helped her learn the ropes, but she is able to read the design sheets on her own and has quickly moved to become a full-time weaver.

She had her second child recently and feels grateful to have a secure income as her children grow.

Her husband previously worked as a field laborer, but has also recently taken up weaving, and together they plan to never work in slash and burn agriculture again!

Pennepa and her husband have been able to build the foundation for a brighter future for their young children. She now has a savings account, and she’s dedicated to making sure that she puts away funds to support a long-term education for both the kids, in addition to creating a more stable home for them as they grow up. This loan will enable her to stabilize her income for the coming year and manage her budget and savings goals!
