Estrellas De Alotenango Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy bolts of fabric, zippers and decorations.

Estrellas De Alotenango Group's story

Dory fell in love with sewing clothing when she was only 13 years old. She began her business two years later. She learned to polish her technique in a sewing course. Dory remembered that she did her homework for the course repurposing old clothing at her home as there was no money to buy fabric and new accessories. She went to school through the 6th grade.

Now, Dory is married and the mother of 3 children (7, 9, 13) who are all in school. Her husband is a tailor. The couple has a workshop in their home with four sewing machines. It is where Dory sews beautiful party attire, as well as any custom orders. She is requesting her fourth Kiva loan to buy bolts of fabric, zippers and decorations.

As the Treasurer of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Estrellas de Alotenango”, Dory keeps track of loan repayments. There are seven other women in the group who live in the department/state of Sacatepequez. They have tortilla shops, sell firewood and sew.

The ladies meet monthly, and participate in educational training sessions, the backbone of the “Microcredit Plus” program of loans, education and health care services. Learning about effective business management techniques helps them with their tortilla shops, firewood and sewing businesses. A recent topic was about how to invest a loan effectively. Every other month, they have access to basic health care services, delivered by a visiting nurse who offers all kinds of basic check ups, exams and family planning consults.

Thank you, Kiva lenders!
