Fortaleza De Dios Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy ingredients and spices to make barbecued steak and snacks.

Fortaleza De Dios Group's story

Throughout the highlands of eastern Guatemala are found small food stalls which are the source of income for many families. For 43-year-old Gloria this business has been very profitable for several years. She became a widow six years ago and has been the sole breadwinner for four children.

Gloria only attended school for six years but has made a great effort to educate all her children to secondary school level. She delivers food during the day but has nevertheless noticed that people in her neighbourhood also seek snacks or refreshments at night. She is seeking a third loan through Kiva to buy ingredients and spices to make barbecued steak and snacks and sell them outside her house.

There are seven women in Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Fortaleza de Dios", and they live in a rural area in the department and state of Suchitepéquez. They run small food stalls or sell natural juices or firewood. Topics such as planning, budgeting, and investment are vital for the success of their businesses. They also learn about health, nutrition, and self-esteem. This month the women are learning how the vaccine against Covid-19 works in their bodies and the importance of receiving it. Friendship Bridge calls this combination of loans, education, and health 'Microloans Plus'.

Kiva lenders together with Friendship Bridge are important to the life of Gloria and her friends. Thank you!
