A loan helped a café and juice bar owned by a father of three overcome challenges posed by the COVID.

Patrick's story

Having been born in Jamaica, raised in New York City and Rochester New York, I was raised with a lot of Caribbean Jamaican cultural pride. My father owned a Jamaican restaurant in Rochester, New York previously. Tropical Blendz Cafe and Juice Bar and was established in August of 2020 to keep my family legacy strong after my father had passed 6 years ago. Keeping the family name, legacy, and rich history together was a mission that I was proud to create within Tropical Blendz Café and Juice Bar. Our drinks are based on natural juices to help you maintain a strong immune system and strong health all around the board. The cafe also provides a touch of Jamaican-style food such as jerk chicken with vegan options. As we all are experiencing living through the COVID-19 Pandemic, I knew Tropical Blendz Cafe and Juice Bar would be a unique business that would benefit the community and youth greatly. Having a passion for satisfying people, I felt that establishing a café that offers immune-boosting natural juices to help people maintain their health, was the right move. My father said, “Always believe in yourself.” Tropical Blendz Cafe and Juice Bar were generating the income it needed to stay open and is worth so much more. With its proven success, our cafe and juice bar has the potential to grow into an even more successful business. Due to the early on Covid-19 mandated closures of businesses, and the reopening guidelines that allowed fewer customers at a time, Tropical Blendz Cafe and Juice Bar have been affected and impacted greatly. Due to rough times, things have been a little complicated and harder to manage with the lack of customers. I am applying for this loan to help our café get back on its feet.
