A loan helped to purchase foodstuffs and other assorted items to increase her business.

Mariama's story

Greetings from Sierra Leone! This is 37-year-old Mariama from Tombo branch. She is married with five children between the ages of 4 and 20 years old, and four are currently attending school. She started this business because she wants to take care of her family.

Mariama runs a retail table business and sells fast food and other assorted items like palm oil, groundnuts, and rice to her customers around the community. Her other source of income is from her husband. She has been in this business for two years and says her greatest challenge is the rainy season.

She requested this loan through BRAC Sierra Leone to purchase foodstuffs and other assorted items to increase her business. Mariama says that the extra income from this loan will help to empower herself and to take care of her family and increase her business.

In the future, she would like to expand to a large scale. She says thanks to BRAC and Kiva for their support.
