Vansin's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to jumpstart her weaving operations by investing in raw materials and becoming a full time weaver.

Vansin's story

Vansin, who guys by “Sil” amongst her friends, grew up in the Pai Tone villlage in rural Thailand during a time of rapid shifts and cultural changes. She comes from a farming family and grew up very poor.

She never expected life to bring her or her children anything different. For a long time, her entire family worked in slash and burn agriculture, trying hard to grow enough food and make ends meet for her three children.

Vansin was interested in hammock weaving because it seemed like a good source of year-round income, and she knew that the increase in supplemental earnings would help her pay bills and buy food. She was also excited to work inside, at home, out of the weather, and to make things others enjoyed using!

With her earnings, she’s also able to support her children’s education by sending them to a quality high school, and is even able to pay for transportation. (These sort of opportunities where not possible for her generation!) Based on her successful track record, Vansin is ready to make the leap to weaving hammocks full-time with the help of the Kiva community and her new loan.
