Jutamart's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to jumpstart her weaving operations by investing in raw materials and becoming a full-time weaver.

Jutamart's story

Jutamart grew up in Pai Tone village in rural Thailand during a time of rapid shifts and cultural changes. From the time she was young, she worked alongside her parents doing manual field labor and scraping by on subsistence farming.

Now, planning for the future is more complex than it was when Jutamart’s parents were young. Most farmers plant for the commercial market, and subsistence agriculture is a thing of the past, not to mention that the commercial market is under considerable pressure in the marginal areas around Jutamart‘s village.

When hammock weaving was first introduced to her, Jutamart immediately realized the advantages that it held over farming. Not only could she earn more money through her weaving, she wouldn’t have to worry about produce spoiling on the way to the market or a crop being taken out by insects.

Jutamart found great joy in her artisan hammock weaving endeavor. She is excited to transition to weaving full-time through this Kiva loan, and she is looking forward to eventually helping finance a vehicle for her family as well as supporting her children’s education.

Jutamart realizes that education is important in today’s world, even in the less accessible parts of the country where they live. She is determined to make sure that her children have every educational opportunity and are able to keep up with the pace of change in the future.
