Wimon's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to invest in raw materials to secure consistent weaving work and increase her income potential.

Wimon's story

Wimon was born and raised in northeastern Thailand (near the Cambodian border). Her village was so poor and the future so bleak that she took a big chance on moving away and finding factory work in Bangkok, the capital city.

In Bangkok she met her future husband, another transplant from the countryside. After their marriage, they moved to his ancestral home, the tiny village of “Huay Oi” in Phrae Province. He owned a small amount of land, so they entered into agrarian life. In recent years farming has required a larger and larger investment of money for seeds, chemicals and fertilizers. The family’s budget has been strained and it’s been a struggle to turn any profit off the land.

Wimon found that hammock weaving was a perfect supplement to her income - she is able to work from her home in her spare time without missing out on family life. With her additional income, her family is able to make plans for the future. They are planning to build a house and put their daughter through school.

She has previously participated in the Kiva program and felt very happy with the stability that it provided. She feels that this security is essential to her children and is thrilled to be able to have a similar balance in the coming year.

This loan will allow her to invest more time in hammock weaving and greatly contribute to the family’s income.
