A loan helped to purchase feeds for the hens so as to improve on the product of eggs for sale.

Mariam's story

Mariam is 28 years old and lives in the town of Manganjo in the Kawempe region of Uganda. She has one child who is currently in school. For the past three years, Mariam has been working hard to manage her poultry farming.

To help expand her business, Mariam has requested a loan of 1,500,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase feeds for the hens so as to improve on the product of eggs for sale and will help Mariam to generate greater profits and she will manage to buy food for her family and take care of herself. Mariam hopes that in the future she will be able to buy a piece of land and build a mansion for herself.

Mariam is a member of BRAC's Microfinance program (MF). The program primarily serves small Group members like Mariam who do not have collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.
