Itzel Julissa's story

Meet Itzel Julissa! She is a farmer from the rural community of Embera Puru in East Panama, a region historically excluded from basic financial services.

Itzel Julissa is an outstanding school teacher in her community, her dedication and passion for teaching have enabled her becoming a member of the indigenous community where she lives now and also has been accepted by the local community-owned bank. Apart from teaching, Itzel Julissa is also dedicated to farming, mostly cassava and plantain.

Today, she is applying for her first loan to buy cassava seeds and hire young temporary workers locally to plant cassava in a small land that she works with her family. This venture will generate much-needed jobs in rural Panama.

Thank you for supporting women farmers that generate opportunities in rural Panama.
