Margaritas De Chuatzam Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy a large quantity of fabric, buttons, zippers and elastic.

Margaritas De Chuatzam Group's story

Fidelia is a 45 year old married mother of 3 children over the age of 18 who now live in the United States. A couple of years ago, Fidelia married her 2nd husband. She is a cancer survivor. She has a workshop where she makes all kinds of traditional textiles and handicrafts. Usually, from September until January, Fidelia employs 9 people but because of the pandemic, since sales have decreased, she only has 6 employees. With a KIVA loan, she can buy a large quantity of fabric, buttons, zipper and elastic.

As the Secretary of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Margaritas de Chuatzam”, Fidelia keeps a record of the monthly meetings. There are 6 other Maya K’iche ladies in the group who raise animals and have traditional textile businesses. They are proud women who are anxious to help take care of household expenses including the education of their children. At their monthly meetings, they participate in interactive educational training sessions, part of the “Microcredit Plus” program of loans, education and health care services. Recent topics were about empowerment and effective business management practices. They also learn about healthy habits, women’s issues and family matters. Every 2 months, the women have access to basic health care services. This is especially important because the health care system in Guatemala is always stretched very thin.

Thank you, Kiva investors, for the vital role you play in the lives of Fidelia and her friends!
