Mary's story

Hello, Kiva community!

Mary, a 50-year-old mom of 4, lives in Kitale Kenya, a land of seemingly never-ending beauty. Mary loves her farm and is very passionate about it. She takes care of her farmstead with her husband. Mary normally focuses on dairy farming and crop production. Thanks to her daily efforts, she has managed to give her children a good start by providing them with a quality education.

Mary also earns some income from a personal business. She never had a formal secondary school education and is content with the farming lifestyle. Mary is kindly seeking a loan to buy farm inputs and increase her farming success. With the loan, she will buy quality farm inputs, such as seeds and fertilizers, to grow more crops.

Being a woman and accessing funds in Kenya, especially around Kitale, is very challenging, but Mary feels relieved knowing there are institutions such as Kiva that help enterprising women like her. Mary is always working to improve her family’s living conditions, but her biggest dreams are to become independent and support her family by herself, to secure her children’s future, and to buy a home.
