Mariam's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to purchase more sacks of sugar, salt and maize flour to sell.

Mariam's story

Mariam is 32 years old and lives in the town of Matuga in the Kawempe region of Uganda. She is married and has four children who are all currently in school. For the past two years, Mariam has been working hard to manage her retail shop, which sells essential items like sugar, salt, cooking oil and soft drinks.

To help expand her business, Mariam has requested a loan of 1,800,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase more sacks of sugar, salt and maize flour for sale, and will help Mariam to generate greater profits to repay back the loan in time, and also provide her family with enough basic needs.

Mariam hopes that in the future she will be able to expand her business into a wholesale shop.

Mariam is a member of BRAC's Microfinance program (MF). The program primarily serves small Group members like Mariam who do not have collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.
