A loan helped to purchase feed for the hens and vaccines so as to improve on the production of chicken meat and eggs.

Moureen's story

Moureen is 35 years old and lives in the town of Kawempe in the Kawempe region of Uganda. She is married and has four children, who are all currently in school. For the past three years, Moureen has been working hard to manage her poultry farm.

To help expand her business, Moureen has requested a loan of 2,400,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase feed for the hens and vaccines so as to improve on the production of chicken meat and eggs for sale, and will help Moureen to generate greater profits. She will manage to buy food for her family and also manage to take care of her other basic, family needs like buying clothes for her children. Moureen hopes that in the future she will be able to establish a very big poultry farm and build rentals for business of her own.

Moureen is a member of BRAC's Microfinance program (MF). The program primarily serves small Group members like Moureen who do not have collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.
