Hellen's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped a single mom to buy farm inputs to improve productivity and profits to support her children until they finish school.

Hellen's story

Hellen (56-year-old single mom of 2 school-going children) resides in a small house in the Nyamira area of Kenya, an area where most houses have neither electricity nor a water connection.

Having grown up on a farm, Hellen is no stranger to hard work, and she is ready to roll up her sleeves with the hard work and determination needed to make her farming journey a fruitful one!

Thanks to her daily efforts, Hellen has managed to give her family a good start by providing them with a good-quality education.

Hellen has a farm where she grows crops and raises livestock. She also earns some income from a personal business.

The Nyamira area is a favorable one for farming, so Hellen is seeking a 90,000 KES loan through Kiva's field partner, Juhudi Kilimo, to buy farm inputs such as fertilizer and seeds to enable her to grow more crops, reap maximum profits, and increase her business.

Being a woman, it is very challenging for Hellen to access funds in Kenya, especially around Nyamira; however, Hellen feels relieved knowing there are institutions such as Kiva that help enterprising women like herself.

Hellen is always working to improve her family’s living conditions; her biggest dreams are to become independent and support her family by herself.
