Tomasa's story

Tomasa B. is from the town of Calamagui, San Pablo. She is 47 years old, married and has four school-aged children. To make a living, Tomasa makes and sells candy to members of her community. Tomasa has been engaged in her business for over one year and earns approximately 3,000 Philippine pesos (PHP) a month. In 2009, Tomasa joined ASKI to gain access to financial services with the hopes of improving her living situation and ability to engage in business activities. Tomasa has successfully repaid a previous loan of 10,000 PHP from ASKI. This previous loan was used to purchase new items to expand her product offerings. Tomasa is requesting a new loan of 10,000 PHP which will be used to purchase raw ingredients needed to make her products. This loan will be the third loan taken out by Tomasa from ASKI. She plans to use any additional revenue generated from the business to support her family. About ASKI: ASKI is one of the most successful microfinance institutions in the Philippines. It has 29 branches covering the Central and Northeastern areas.
