Sophie's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy fish to restock her deep freezer and to acquire a grinder for processing kava.

Sophie's story

Sophie is 47 years old and married to a fruit picker who is currently working in New Zealand under the Recognized Seasonal Employees Program. They have three children who are ages 28, 27, and 13. Sophie lives with her family in their own home, which is located on the northern side of Efate Island. The capital city of Port Vila is located on the southern side. The main industries are agriculture and fishing. A majority of the locals rely on these two industries for food and income, so the conditions are satisfactory for one to make a living.

Sophie has requested a loan in order to buy fish from the local fishermen so that she can restock her deep freezer. She will sell the fish by the kilo to her customers. Sophie will also purchase an electric grinder for processing kava so that she can earn extra income. She has always relied on her husband and children to help with her businesses, which have been in operation for more than two years. With the income she earns, Sophie plans to build a house for her firstborn son.

This will be her third loan with SPBD Vanuatu. Sophie has successfully repaid her previous loans on time. With her loans, she feels motivated to expand her businesses so that she can improve her family’s living conditions.
