but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to purchase more sacks of sugar, salt and maize flour to sell.

Sarah's story

Sarah is 27 years old and lives in the town of Kalerwe in the Kawempe region of Uganda. She is married and has two children who are both currently in school. For the past 4 years, Sarah has been working hard to manage her retail shop, where she sells essential items like sugar, salt, cooking oil and water.

To help expand her business, Sarah has requested a loan of 1,800,000 UGX from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase more sacks of sugar, salt and maize flour to sell. It will help Sarah generate greater profits and manage to provide enough food for her family.

Sarah hopes that in the future she will be able to save some money to buy land and construct a residential house.

Sarah is a member of BRAC's Microfinance program (MF). The program primarily serves small Group members like Sarah who do not have collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.
