Olivia's story

Olivia is 27 years old and lives in the town of Kalerwe in the Kawempe region of Uganda. She is married and has 2 children with 1 of them currently in school. For the past 5 years, Olivia has been working hard to manage her retail shop, which sells essential items like sugar, salt, cooking oil and soft drinks.

To help expand her business, Olivia has requested a loan of 1,500,000 Ugandan shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase more sacks of sugar, salt and maize flour for sale, and will help Olivia to generate greater profits and manage to repay the loan on time. and also provide her family with enough basic needs. Olivia hopes that in the future she will be able to expand her business into a wholesale shop.

Olivia is a member of BRAC's microfinance program (MF). The program primarily serves small group members like Olivia who do not have collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.
