Nicole's story

I’m Nicole. I was an outgoing but bookish and artsy kid, born to a Puerto Rican biker father and a bohemian, Washingtonian mother. I grew up traveling the country in a smurf blue converted school bus. I’ve always been someone who needed to be drawing and designing and making things. I discovered photography in school and after high school worked in a portrait studio and photographed weddings and portraits. In my early 20’s I began working as a custom picture framer. Shortly after that, I decided to study graphic design and I earned my Visual Communications degree in 2006. We settled in Tacoma where we bought a home after I became a mom. I love this community and would like to build a business where I can turn creativity into opportunity. I’m Tammi. Growing up, the biggest influence in my life was my Grandma Jane. She taught me how to paint and look at the world from an artist's viewpoint. The designs she painted have repeatedly influenced my style and design. After high school, I completed a degree in Interior Design. After graduation, I worked for several firms and owned my own Interior Design Business. Currently, I’m a design instructor at a community college. Born and raised in the Pacific Northwest my husband and I decided that Tacoma was the place we wanted to raise our son. I currently serve on our school’s PTA board and my son's local scout troop board. I and Tammi met over a popcorn popper while volunteering at our boys’ school in 2013. We quickly discovered that we had similar interests and were both designers. This business is a natural evolution of our friendship and a common love of design. This is where the Tacoma Design Company was born.
