Community-Owned Bank Of Las Peñitas De Rio Congo's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to provide working capital for an indigenous community-owned bank, generating opportunities in native indigenous territories.

Community-Owned Bank Of Las Peñitas De Rio Congo's story

Las Peñitas de Rio Congo is a small rural community that is made up mostly of indigenous farmers.

The Community-Owned Bank of Las Peñitas de Rio Congo started in 2021, was founded by the strong female leaders of this town, and has been a tremendous tool for empowering women, especially during the financial turmoil caused in their community by the global pandemic.

The bank is a small, women-led financial institution that allows members of the community to have savings, take out small loans, and gain financial literacy. A lot of members in this community have been historically excluded from traditional financial institutions, but the Community-Owned Bank provides members with financial inclusion in their own community. The members are very committed to the growth of the rural bank, since it has given them the opportunity to improve their quality of life.

Today, they are requesting their first Kiva loan, which will be used to provide working capital to the bank's entrepreneurs, who are running microenterprises in farming, livestock, restaurants, and construction. By giving a loan to the Community-Owned Bank of Las Peñitas de Rio Congo, you are providing access to financial services for farming families and creating jobs during the crucial planting season.
