Las Lucianas Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to restock the shelves of her convenience store.

Las Lucianas Group's story

Ana is a single, 24-year-old woman with a 2nd grade education who lives with her parents. She has enrolled in a literacy program, determined to empower and educate herself.

Three years ago, Ana opened her convenience store in a community in the department/state of Totonicapan. She also is a talented artisan and embroiders colorful traditional textiles using the cross-stitch method. After taking a careful inventory of the products on the shelves of her store, Ana has determined that she needs to restock several items. She is requesting her 5th loan for this purpose.

Ana is one of 8 Maya K’iche women in the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Las Lucianas” who reap great benefits from their participation in the “Microcredit Plus” program of loans, education and healthcare services. Ana is the Secretary of the group. Sharing in this loan, the ladies will be able to invest in their tortilla shops, convenience stores, orange juice stands, and traditional textile businesses.

The group members obtain essential business management skills in their monthly interactive training sessions along with information about health, hygiene, nutrition, and women’s issues. Every 2 months, the women can visit with a traveling nurse who offers all kinds of exams, services, and consults. This is a crucial component of the program.

Thank you, KIVA investors, for lending a helping hand to Ana and her friends. With your generosity, they are stepping into a brighter future!
