Esther's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to purchase farming inputs, such as high-nutrient fertilizer and certified seeds, to improve her farm yield and make more profits.

Esther's story

Esther (a 39-year-old mom of three pictured in her side hustle business) is a lively and energetic smallholder female farmer. Born in a rural village in Thika, Esther grew up knowing farming as the only economic activity in her area. As a young girl, she was always eager to learn from her parents, and this has had a positive impact on her life. Esther's spirit has led her to be a successful farmer, practicing dairy cow farming and crop production.

The biggest problem that farmers from her area face is the huge deficit in terms of access to agricultural inputs. This means these farmers' yields and incomes are far below what they could be.

Juhudi Kilimo partnered with Kiva to provide financial services to smallholders around Kenya. Through these financial services, farmers from Thika like Esther can now buy productive assets and important agricultural inputs for use on their farms.

Esther is seeking a loan to buy farm inputs, such as fertilizer, herbicides, and pesticides. Your loan will enable her to improve her production through the use of quality farm inputs.

This intervention will help Esther fulfill the increasing demand for food in the market, generate more income to repay the loan debt, and improve the quality of life for her family. Helping Esther through lending will help lift her family from the chains of poverty!
