Evana Matal's story

Evana Matal lives in an urban district which is located just 2.5 kilometres out of Port Vila, city of Vanuatu. Her community is one of the largest residential areas near the city, and the main industry is food. Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, locals have been very supportive to each other so it was possible to generate a satisfactory income.

Evana Matal is 50 years old and married to a construction worker. She has three children, two aged 19 and 15 are in college, and a 9 years old one who is in primary school. She lives with her family in a small shanty apartment.

Evana Matal has requested a loan to buy a bag of kava so she can start selling green kava in kilos and increase her income. She wants to provide this service as there are no one selling green kava near her. In Vanuatu men traditionally drink kava on ceremonial occasions, however now men and women drink kava on a casual basis.

She will use the earned revenues to invest in her children's education. Evana Matal has been in this business for over 15 years now. She dreams, one day, to have her own piece of land so her family can have their own home.

This is Evana Matal's fifth loan with South Pacific Business Development (Vanuatu) Ltd. She has complied with her previous payments on a timely manner. From her loans, Evana Matal is motivated to expand her business so she can provide the best for her family.
