A loan helped a women-owned business buy important equipment needed to grow our business.

Luisa's story

My business was 6 months old when I got divorced from the father of my two daughters. I was left with no income, an elder mother to take care of, and my two daughters. My options to generate income were two: to find a job, which did not pay much since I was a stay home mom for over 15 years before, or to grow my very new business idea. This was a very difficult and risky decision considering the risk of a new business. My dream was to provide for my family, send my girls to college, take care of my family in a dignified way, and become an important example for my daughters, showing them that even in the worst situations in life, hard work and consistency pay off. Today our business has provided for us, my girls have grown as strong women, one of them is going to medical school and the other one owns her own photography business. My mother is healthy and very strong. The last 8 years since the divorce have been the hardest years of my life, working 7 days a week, with no break, having good but also not so good days, lot of tears and sweat. It was not easy I must say. But things are getting better and easier every day. Now we take weekends off; we have four employees that, thanks to the jobs we created, can provide for their families; and this number is growing. We call our story a story of survival. Looking back, I don't know how we did it, but we are here and stronger than ever.
