A loan helped to buy raw materials for her handicraft business and also to help with their new business.

Hau'alofa's story

This woman's name is Hau'alofa. She is a 51-year-old mother to her four children and a wife to a carpenter. She runs a handicraft business where she makes ta'ovala ( a traditional woven garment ) for men, using hibiscus and Chinese cotton. She makes more than one ta'ovala in a week and her daughter helps her with the business.

Her business does really help her husband with their family's expenses as well as the kids' school fees. Other products are also produced and the price depends on the size and types of materials they are made from.

She sells her products to both local and overseas customers. This loan will help Hau'alofa buy more materials and also help with their new business of making furniture to sell.
