Vani's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to purchase dried pandanus leaves and magimagi to make handheld fans.

Vani's story

Vani, who lives in Lakena Village, 10 miles from the central market, cooks for her family. Being the sole breadwinner puts a lot of pressure on her to cook on a regular basis in order to meet her daily goal. But, she claims the reward is worthwhile. She would get up at 4am every day, start cooking, pack her foods, and be at the central market by 6am to sell them.

But Vani is unable to sell in the central market due to the recent rise in Covid-19 cases in Fiji. As a result, she decided to switch her business to weaving traditional Fijian fans. She discovered that fans (Iri) are required in all occasions, from weddings, birthdays, relaxing at home, funerals and anywhere that people go to. Vani wishes to use the funds to purchase pandanus leaves and magimagi (a fibrous product made from coconut husk) in order to weave fans. She will stand out from other fan weavers as she will weave people's name of choice on the fan.

Despite the obstacles Vani faces as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, she would learn to maintain her business and will work even harder for her family.
