A loan helped to purchase another high-yield dairy cow and milk cans to expand her milk-vending business and generate more income to sustain her family.

Sharon's story

Sharon is a 33-year-old mother of four school going children. She is a zealous smallholder farmer from Siongiroi, Kenya. Like many farmers in the region, she keeps a dairy cow. She has a thriving market for dairy products. Sharon has sustained herself through dairy farming for few years now. She has aspirations of expanding her dairy farm, but due to financial constraints she has been unable to do so until now.

Sharon has requested a loan of 145,000 KES from Kiva to purchase another high-yield dairy cow and milk cans to expand her milk-vending business. The purchase of the cow will boost milk production on the farm. Sharon will have greater quantity of milk for both consumption and sale. With the money from the additional sales, she will be able to repay her loan on time. With the increased income from the loan, Sharon plans to spend money on the high farming cost of production and she also desires to improve her family's standard of living.
