Lydia's story

Lydia lives in a rural suburb which is located a 10-minute drive to Port Vila, Vanuatu. Her community is small, and the main industry is food. During the Covid-19 pandemic, it has been delicate for one to make an earning. Lydia is 54 years of age and is a mother of two grown-up children. She is married to a gardener. Her husband is loving and supportive to her and her family. She lives with her family in a small shanty apartment.

She has requested a loan to help her make a deposit for a piece of land so she can start building her family their home. She has her business to sell cold drinks and ice blocks to supply for her customers on a hot day. Lydia has been in her business for over two years now. She dreams of having her own home so she and her family do not have to pay for monthly rent.

Lydia has been with South Pacific Business Development (Vanuatu) Ltd for over three years, and this is her fourth loan. She has been faithful in her previous loan repayments on a timely manner. Lydia feels empowered to better improve her family's living conditions and continue to expand her business to become a successful businesswoman.
