De La Central Semeja Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy a variety of seasonal fruit.

De La Central Semeja Group's story

Maya K'iche' is the language many speak in the Guatemalan Department of Quiché. This is the language of 28-year-old Yolanda, who is married to a laborer and has two daughters ages 6 and 11. Her daughters are attending kindergarten and the 1st grade.

Yolanda has had an apple orchard for four years now. Along with apples, she sells pineapples, watermelons, and papayas from her home. She is requesting her second Kiva loan to purchase a variety of seasonal fruit.

Yolanda is the President of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank "De La Central Semaja". Along with six other Maya K'iche' ladies, she attends monthly meetings where a facilitator engages them in educational training sessions, a part of the "Microcredit Plus" program of loans, education, and healthcare.

Each month there is a specific topic, like budgeting, that the facilitator teaches them using photos, diagrams, and role playing games. The useful topics help them be successful in their businesses, cultivating apples, plums, peaches, avocados, or selling vegetables, or raising chickens, as well as weaving traditional belts/fajas and wrap-around skirts/cortes. Bimonthly, they are fortunate to be able to see a nurse who gives them a health exam.

Thank you, Kiva investors! Your generous support makes it possible for Yolanda and her friends to have a brighter future!
