Phliam's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy silk thread, dye colors, and materials for weaving silk cloth.

Phliam's story

Phliam is a married woman living with her husband, daughter, and grandchild in a Khmer community of Surin Province in Northeast Thailand. Basically, her family makes a living by running a jasmine rice farm and weaving silk cloth for sale as a secondary job.

She learned and was inspired to weave silk cloth by her mother and occupational group in the village. She has been weaving cloth for 30 years and this work is capable of generating income sufficient to spend on her family.

During this period, she wanted to increase her income and to create various silk cloth designs to respond to the needs of the market. Therefore, she sought an opportunity to improve the occupation, and then she applied for the Kiva loan to buy silk thread, dye colours, and materials for weaving silk cloth.

The loan is important to her. This will help her to be able to afford the weaving materials as well as to support her as a local woman entrepreneur.

In the future, she has planned to sell her products around this province and would like to make her family have a better quality of life.
